Outer Weld Root
The weld root is approximated by NAMeS by using the two points in the joint of the weld where penetration starts into the plate material. Often measurements will be calculated using both of these points, and the more conservative number will be choosen. Under many conditions, there can be wetting of the plate by the weld beyond where the weld actually penetrates into the plates. The outer weld root is the outermost point where the bead wet the plate at the weld root.
